Best Hungarian Restaurants in Budapest<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Gundel\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Budapest\u2019s most famous restaurant. This\u00a0upscale restaurant has been standing proud at its current location for over 150 years. Gundel has an old culinary tradition and serves some of the most delicious Hungarian dishes.<\/p>\n

The restaurant also has a gypsy band that plays a wide variety of music, from old Hungarian folk songs, to waltzes and modern hits. Excellent food, good service and high prices.\u00a0 Dress code is high end casual. Address<\/strong>: 14th district, Gundel K\u00e1roly street 4.<\/p>\n

2. Hal\u00e1szb\u00e1stya \u00c9tterem\u00a0(Fishermen\u2019s Bastion Restaurant)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Perched high up on the wall of the Fisherman\u2019s Bastion, this restaurant will spoil you with a royal interior and the best location in town. Great panoramic city views and live gypsy music.<\/p>\n

Food is good and the atmosphere is nice. Prices are high. Address:<\/strong> Fisherman\u2019s Bastion, North Tower, Buda Castle<\/p>\n

3. Csalog\u00e1ny 26<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This bistro style restaurant is very popular among the locals and almost totally unknown to the visitors. Located in a residential neighborhood in Buda, Csalog\u00e1ny 26 is so well hidden that you can easily miss it.<\/p>\n

The food they serve is absolutely divine! They have a great selection of wines. The restaurant is small and intimate, with a very cozy atmosphere. Address<\/strong>: Csalogany utca 26<\/span>, Budapest 1015, <\/span>Hungary<\/span> <\/span>(District I \/ Buda)<\/p>\n

4. Bagolyv\u00e1r Restaurant<\/strong>\u00a0(The Owl\u2019s Castle)<\/span><\/p>\n

The Owl\u2019s Castle<\/em> is a cheaper version of Gundel. The restaurant which is exclusively run by women, is located just a\u00a0stone throw away from Gundel, in a reproduction of a Transylvanian house from the 19th century. The restaurant serves both lunch and dinner and\u00a0also has a patio that is opened during the summer months.<\/p>\n

5. M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Pince<\/strong>\u00a0(Matthias Cellar)<\/p>\n

One of the oldest and most traditional restaurants in Budapest. The restaurant was named after Matthias Corvinus, one of the most beloved Hungarian kings<\/p>\n

They serve good, traditional Hungarian food. A Gypsy band plays here every night. Address:<\/b> H-1056 Budapest, M\u00e1rcius 15. t\u00e9r 7<\/p>\n

6. Szlov\u00e1k S\u00f6r\u00f6z\u00f6<\/strong>\u00a0(Slovak Pub)<\/span><\/p>\n

This little tavern located in the downtown area is one of our favorite pubs in Budapest. The pub serves excellent authentic Slovakian and Hungarian cuisine at very cheap prices.<\/p>\n

7. Caf\u00e9 Gerbeaud<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Caf\u00e9\u00a0Gerbeaud is one of Budapest\u2019s landmarks. Unfortunately, what was once\u00a0Budapest\u2019s finest caf\u00e9 and the meeting place of the city\u2019s elite, became a touristy, overpriced, and mediocre place. If you want to see one of the most traditional coffee houses in Europe, you should stop for a visit.<\/p>\n

8. Caf\u00e9 New York<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Another historic caf\u00e9 in Budapest that served as the gathering spot for famous artist figures of the time is Caf\u00e9 New York.\u00a0Built at the end of the 19th century, this architectural gem went through some bizarre transformations over the years.<\/p>\n

Located on the ground floor of the New York Palace hotel, the coffee house displays a rich and opulent decor made of marble, bronze, silk, crystal, velvet.<\/p>\n

9. Ruszwurm<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

Ruszwurm is one of my favorite spots in Budapest. Their delicious pastries and coffee make your mouth water. Located in the Buda Castle area, the 187 years old tiny little caf\u00e9 still operates with great success.\u00a0Ruszwurm is owned by the Szamos family, a famous confectionary dynasty.<\/p>\n

10. Europa Caf\u00e9 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Europa Caf\u00e9 is another very pleasant coffee house, with bot inside and outside sitting. The caf\u00e9 has a big selection of pastries and sweets. Europa Caf\u00e9 is a popular spot for the locals. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the small Parisian caf\u00e9s where the old timers meet to catch up with each other.<\/p>\n
