Game of Thrones<\/strong> <\/span><\/em>is lauded for its lush world-building and the visually stunning way production designers. They\u00a0have brought<\/span> George R.R. Martin’s rich, complicated world to life<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Game of Thrones\u00a0<\/span><\/em>is, after all, a study in<\/span>\u00a0mind-blowing landscapes.<\/strong> Frigid wastelands and forests beyond the Wall, the amply-treed Kingsroad, turquoise waters across the Narrow Sea, and the sunny, medieval<\/span>\u00a0King\u2019s Landing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of\u00a0GOT\u00a0<\/span><\/em>\u00a0recurring sets are filmed at Paint Hall Studios in Belfast<\/strong>. But the show shoots largely on-location, primarily in\u00a0Northern Ireland<\/strong> and\u00a0Iceland<\/strong> for scenes in the North, and\u00a0 Croatia<\/strong> and\u00a0Spain\u00a0<\/strong>for the South. Cast members who have scenes beyond the Wall have been known to film on lands\u00a0buried in feet of snow.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is such an impressive roster of medieval cities and stunning islands on their shoot list. Should not\u00a0come as no surprise that a\u00a0GOT <\/span><\/em>\u00a0location tour around Europe\u00a0would make for\u00a0a great\u00a0vacation. For all you travel junkies out there, we\u2019ve compiled the ultimate\u00a0Game of Thrones<\/span><\/em>\u00a0travel guide.<\/span><\/p>\n

MALTA<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Azure Window<\/strong> can be seen behind Daenerys and Khal Drogo\u2019s wedding. In the show\u2019s first season, the city of Mdina was the setting for King\u2019s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Gozo,<\/strong> Malta\u2019s smaller sister island, was the setting for the Dothraki Wedding in the show\u2019s first season.<\/p>\n

Fort Manoel in Malta<\/strong> was used as a location where Ned Stark met his end on king Joeffrey orders.<\/p>\n

IRELAND<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

While the pilot episode was shot at Doune Castle Scotland, shots of Winterfell<\/strong> took place at Ward Castle, Northern Ireland. <\/b>The scene\u00a0when the\u00a0Stark boys found a litter if direwolf puppies in the forest took place in Tallymore Forest Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Iron Islands, the Harbour of\u00a0<\/span>Ballintoy\u00a0<\/span>was redressed as the port of Pyke.<\/strong> The episode introduces the new location of Pyke, the Greyjoys’ seat of power on the Iron Islands. Scenes set there were filmed at in\u00a0 County of Antrim.<\/p>\n

The Dothraki Sea<\/strong>, known as Great Grass Sea, is The Glens of Antrium in Northern Ireland.<\/strong>The grandest road in the land, Kingsroad,<\/strong> also filmed in Ireland.<\/p>\n

The shore where burning of seven took place was filmed at Downhill Beach in Northern Ireland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the Game Of Thrones creepiest scenes features Lady Melisandre giving birth to a “shadow”. It was filmed at the Caves at Cushendum in County Antrim.<\/strong><\/p>\n

ICELAND<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The scenes beyond The Wall<\/strong> have been filmed at many locations around Iceland.<\/strong> Most notably the Myrdalsjokull glacier, the Hverfjall volcano, and Vatnajokull glacier.<\/p>\n

Jon Snow and\u00a0his Wildling love interest Ygritte get intimate\u00a0inside the lava cave Grjotagja,<\/strong> Iceland.<\/p>\n

CROATIA<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

When not standing in a studio, Dubrovnik<\/strong> and Split<\/strong>, Croatia<\/strong>, stand in for the city of King\u2019s Landing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lokrum, Adriatic Sea island<\/strong>, was used for filming scenes in the “Greatest City That Ever Was or Will Be”. Otherwise known\u00a0as Qarth<\/strong>. The Benedictine Monastery<\/strong> stood in as Xaro Xhaon Daxos mansion.<\/p>\n

When Daenerys dragons are stolen staying in the city of Quarth,\u00a0 she is led to the House of Undying.<\/strong> This was shot inside the walls of Min\u010deta tower<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Everyone\u2019<\/b>s favorite Faceless Man, Arya Stark, arrives in the free city of Bravos.<\/strong> Filming actually took place in \u0160ibenik,\u00a0a gorgeous and historical city in\u00a0Croatia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

MOROCCO<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Season three introduces the Slaver\u2019s Bay city of Astapor.<\/strong> Here Daenarys meets the army of the Unsullied. Principal photography was shot in the Moroccan city of\u00a0 Essaouira.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scenes taking place in Yunkai and Pentos<\/strong> were filmed at the fortified city of Ait-Ben-Haddou in Morocco.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SPAIN<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The fans favorite House of Martel the Water Palaces of\u00a0Dome home. All actually filmed at the Alcazar de Sevilla in Spain.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Long Bridge in the free city of Volantis,<\/strong> used the Roman bridge in Cordoba , Spain.<\/strong><\/p>\n
