Burning Man<\/b><\/a>\u00a0is an annual gathering that takes place at Black Rock City\u2014a temporary city erected in the\u00a0Black Rock Desert<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Nevada<\/a>. The event is described as an experiment in community and art, influenced by 10 main principles: “radical” inclusion, self-reliance and self-expression, as well as community cooperation, civic responsibility, gifting,\u00a0decommodification, participation, immediacy and\u00a0leaving no trace.<\/p>\n

First held in 1986 on\u00a0Baker Beach\u00a0in\u00a0San Francisco<\/a>\u00a0as a small function organized by\u00a0Larry Harvey\u00a0and a group of friends, it has since been held annually, spanning from the last Sunday in August to the first Monday in September.<\/p>\n

Being a ‘Burner’ is more than going to an event. It’s a way of being in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Burning Man 2017 takes place August 27 \u2013 September 4, 2017, in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. Participants join in the effort to co-create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to art and community.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme is an attempt to reinvent ritual in our post post-modern world. For this purpose, we will disregard assertions of belief and concentrate instead on the immediate experience of play.<\/p>\n

The 30,000 festival passes available during the main sale\u00a0sold out in just 35 minutes<\/a>, the Reno Gazette Journal reported.<\/p>\n

Tickets were sold at $425, plus taxes and fees, and 10,000 vehicle passes were sold at $80 each, plus taxes and fees.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Burning Man has picked up a reputation as a place where\u00a0celebrities\u00a0and\u00a0Silicon Valley tech nerds\u00a0gather to network and party.\u00a0So while a veteran of early gatherings would probably tell you\u00a0the festival is not what it used to be, there is no denying that\u00a0it\u2019s still a great place to experience some crazy-awesome art.<\/p>\n

At Burning Man everyone is equal, there is no money at Burning Man, and also no bartering.<\/p>\n

It is a gifting society at Burning Man and you have to bring everything you will need to survive the week in the desert for the festival, including almost 50 liters of water, and all your food for a week plus all the extra stuff to give away.<\/p>\n

After all, you will not be able to buy anything there.<\/p>\n

Everything built at Burning Man is made from the stuff people brought to the festival.<\/p>\n

You can wear or not wear whatever you want at the festival as the festival is a judgment free zone with no rules.<\/p>\n
