Now Spring is upon us, and the world starts to flower, attracting bees and buzzing onlookers, with colourful displays drawing in millions of people every year, with Japan’s cherry blossom season alone luring in roughly 3.73 million tourists every year.

Flower tourism is blooming, with 56% of people adding Keukenhof Gardens, in the Netherlands, to their travel bucket lists, but which flower spots are best?

Eager to find out, Spinblitz analysed the world’s most loved flower hotspots against key factors including flower vibrancy, popularity, reviews and picture-worthiness to reveal the must-visit spring flower spots around the world.

1. Keukenhof Tulip Gardens – Amsterdam, Netherlands

In first place, as the most beautiful flower spot in the world, scoring 9.08/10 is Keukenhof Tulip Gardens in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The spectacular spring spot tops the ranking with the most vibrancy of all locations, scoring 9.96 out of 10 with its dynamic display of over 7 million flowers, including 800 tulip varieties which sit across the 79-acre gardens in Lisse. The gardens see over one million visitors a year, and a recent study found that 56% of people said they would put the gardens on their travel bucket list and it’s clear why, with a Google review rating of 4.7 and a whopping 692,146 photos on Instagram despite being open for only 8 weeks each spring.

2. Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew – London, UK

In second place, Royal Botanic Gardens in London scores 8.11/10; the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Southwest London is the capital’s not-so- hidden treasure, spanning 326 acres one of the largest botanical gardens in the world with the largest collection in the world of over 50,000 plants. This spot is less vibrant than first place with a score of 6.38, but still overflows with flowers, including carpets of bluebells, budding cherry blossoms, and a sea of tulips, which act as a beautiful backdrop for photos, where this garden garners 765k Instagram hashtags – the most in the study.

2. Island Mainau – Konstanz, Germany

Also ranking in second place with an 8.11/10 Score, the 111-acre ‘flower island’ Island Mainau in Germany is brimming with charm, character and year-round blooms. 1 million visitors a year step foot on the island in Lake Constance, which is home to a spectacle of flowers from roses, dahlias, tulips, orchids and more. The gardeners here add whimsy to the island with elaborate flower sculptures, including ducks and a peacock planted in begonias. The island also boasts one of Germany’s largest butterfly houses, along with a charming Baroque castle built in the 18th century, which enhances its appeal. The island has a Google Review rating of 4.7/5 and a vibrancy score of 7.83/10.

4. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden – Cape Town, South Africa

Landing in fourth place with 8.04/10, nestled in South Africa’s Cape Town is Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden along the eastern slope of Table Mountain. The garden is almost entirely filled with plants native to South Africa and is famous for its protea, the national flower of South Africa, known for its bright colours and bold shapes. Visitors can view the beautiful landscape from above while walking along the curved treetop walkway. The garden scores 7.66 out of 10 for vibrancy, and visitors have rated it 4.8 out of 5 on Google.

5. Valley of Flowers National Park – Chamoli, India

Landing in fifth place, the Unesco World Heritage-listed Valley of Flowers National Park in Chamoli, India, scores 7.97/10. The flower spot is rated 8.41/10 for vibrancy, thanks to its over 300 flower species found across the valley. These include poppies, marigolds, orchids and primulas, alongside rare, threatened and endangered wildflower species like the blue poppy and the Himalayan bellflower. This destination has been featured 115,940 times on Instagram, where the dramatic Himalayan mountain framed landscape makes the perfect backdrop.
