Hosting Chefs who have a special place in their heart for Alta Badia

Michelin-starred chefs will be playing the leading role in the eleventh edition of this much-anticipated culinary event on the slopes, all of whom are friends and lovers of Alta Badia. Many of them began their cooking careers right here in Alta Badia, following in the footsteps of great chefs such as Norbert Niederkofler, whereas others became passionate about this place after coming here on holiday or taking part in the numerous food and wine events organised throughout the year. The dishes created must contain at least one of Italy’s top-quality products.

The Gourmet Skisafari will also be making a comeback, with skiers moving from one mountain hut to the next, enjoying the aromas and colours of the different dishes created by no less than the Michelin-starred chefs themselves. SunRisa, on the other hand, is a new event, dedicated to genuine and healthy breakfasts on the slopes.

It is also thanks to the ‘A taste for skiing’ event that Alta Badia has become increasingly well-known over the last ten years as a destination offering the best in mountain pleasures. In this regard, food and wine events represent a unique chance to discover the area’s excellent culinary specialities.

The concept behind the initiative remains the same: 10 Michelin-starred chefs will be assigned to a mountain hut on the slopes of Alta Badia, creating a recipe that will be offered to skiers throughout the winter season. What’s more, all of the chefs taking part have very close ties with Alta Badia. Some of them began their careers in the local restaurants, some like to come here on holiday, some know the area thanks to the culinary events they have taken part in and others, such as Nicola Laera (La Stüa de Michil Restaurant at Hotel La Perla, 1 Michelin star), were simply born and live here. The dishes all tell a story, linked to top-quality Italian products that are famous and envied the world over. Each dish will be paired with a wine from South Tyrol, carefully selected by an expert sommelier from the same area, creating incredibly special and original combinations.

In recent years, Alta Badia has become a top tourist destination for food and wine. A taste for skiing is the most delicious initiative of the whole winter season, held every year from December to April on the slopes of this ski resort located in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Thanks to these high-altitude culinary initiatives, Alta Badia can celebrate Italy’s wonderful food and wine, giving greater emphasis to the motto #skitheitalianway. Winter holidays mean so much more than simply skiing down the slopes. Alta Badia enhances the winning combination of snow sports and excellent cuisine – the main strengths of this area. The idea is to bring incredibly high-quality food and wines to skiers and all food-lovers out there, further enhancing the food and drink on offer at the resort’s mountain huts.

The ‘A taste for skiing’ season officially gets underway on Alta Badia’s ski slopes on Saturday 14th December. The seventh edition of the much-anticipated Gourmet Skisafari event will take Michelin-starred cuisine to 2,000 m above sea level, into the heart of the Dolomites. At a number of mountain huts, Michelin-starred chefs will be treating skiers to their delicious dishes, using top-quality products to sing the praises of Italian cuisine. In fact, the chefs will be using the best Italian products as inspiration for their dishes. Skiers will have the chance to move from one mountain hut to another, trying each chef’s creations. Real works of art will be on offer, not only for the taste buds but also for the eyes. There will also be the opportunity to get to know the chefs in person and to learn the story behind their dish. Enjoy your first ski of the season, characterised by great flavours.
