The best ski resort is attractive all year
Ski resorts do not sleep when there is no snow. Many adapt to the seasons and organize various activities, gastronomy and excursions to appeal to the liking of the adventurous audience.
All serious skiers know that Val d’Isere is the best ski resort. So many good, long and steep slopes, right next to the beautiful village are nowhere else to be found in the Alps. But how does this ski resort look like during the other months ?
It looks appealing. Not all hotels and apartments are working, but there are enough of them to feel the comfort of the semi-populated place. Free of charge, you can get to the tops of Solaise and Face de Bellevarde by ski lift.
Solaise has a well-landscaped promenades, and there is also a small lake that skiers are unfamiliar with because during winter it is under thick snow. In the cafe next to the lake you can rent a fishing rod and go fishing at 2,500 meters altitude.
On the other hand, there are numerous mountain bike trails on Bellevard. They are well marked and distinguished by colours same as ski slopes, so everyone can choose what suits him. There are a lot of cyclists. Dressed in bright colours and armoured like hockey players, they race downhill alongside the ski slopes. There are also several lifts exclusively for cyclists.
The village itself has a great atmosphere. The local tourist office is very agile and organizes something every week. Games and various activities for children, transport to Col de Iseran and descends to the village for the cyclists. One of the biggest tourist magnets is exactly that pass. It is the fourth highest mountain road in the Alps and it reaches 2762 meters. It is filled with true cyclists who are trying to reach the speed of their idols from the Tour de France race going uphill. There is also a high number of motorcyclists from different countries. They all like to take selfies next to the pass mark and the altitude sign.
For those less demanding, there is an indoor swimming pool in the village that is open in the winter and easy walks available in the surrounding area. Val d’Isere is located in the valley so it’s easy to find the right track. All are well marked. a free bus drives around the village linking all major points of interest and the nearby Tignes as well. Some hotels have open swimming pools like ours – Altitude hotel – had, so there are plenty of people enjoying sunbathing in the Alpine sun.
Gastronomy is a true to its alp origins. The offer includes local specialities such as cheeses and various spice herbs. In the vicinity of the village you can visit big dairy farms and see the production of top cheeses. Staying in Val d’Isere would not be complete without the Savoyard Fondue or the Raclette dinner.
The place is a sight for sore eyes, and soul as well. A week at 1850 meters is a top-notch vacation for us.
