One of the Oldest Cities in Hungary
Located in the western part of the country, near Lake Balaton, Veszprém is known as the “City of Queens.” It is rich in historical landmarks, cultural heritage, and natural beauty, making it an attractive tourist destination.

Summer Festivals
Many festivals are held in the summer, making it an excellent time to visit. One of the main attractions is the Veszprém Summer Festival (VeszprémFest), one of the most important music festivals in Hungary. Each evening features international music stars performing to thousands of attendees. Particularly memorable was Pamela Faith’s energetic and lively performance.
Simultaneously, the colorful Rose, Riesling, & Jazz Festival occurred in the city center. The stage on the square, surrounded by food stalls and excellent local wines, hosted young bands every night.
Saint Stephen and Gizella
The first Hungarian king, Stephen I (István), is closely associated with Veszprém. He reigned from 1000 or 1001 until he died in 1038. His reign was crucial for consolidating Hungary as a Christian kingdom and establishing it as a significant force in medieval Europe. He was canonized as a saint. The most famous cathedrals dedicated to Saint Stephen are in Vienna, Zagreb, and Hvar. His queen, Gizella, was actively involved in church and social affairs and remained popular during and after her lifetime.
