Vogel Slovenia: Ski resort with the best view

Vogel Ski Resort is one of the best Slovenian ski resorts with the most beautiful view. It is located between Lake Bohinj and the Julian Alps and offers a view of the beautiful lake and the powerful image of Triglav mountain. The ski resort covers 78 hectares of snow-covered area, and there is even a hotel set at its top at 1,535 metres. The accommodation offer consists of several tourist rooms, inns, chalets for twelve people, and a hut. Accommodation can also be found below Vogel by the lake and in the entire Bohinj-Bled region.

Ski area

The ski resort has a total of 9 cable cars and ski lifts. From the upper station of the gondola, the cable cars run to Orlova glava (1,660 metres), and the highest point is the Šija plateau (1,800 metres). There is also a trail that descends to the lake, Žagarjev greben, but due to lack of snow, it is rarely open. Vogel Slovenia is a place where one can enjoy skiing as it uses to be.

Kobla and Zatrnik

In Bohinjska Bistrica, which is only a few kilometres and around ten minutes away by car from the lower gondola station, there is a neighbouring ski resort Kobla. The highest point is at 1,480 metres, so it does not have as much snow as Vogel. It has six cable cars and is estimated to have about 20 kilometres of trails. This hidden ski area attracts local skiers as well as hotel guests nearby. Although the altitudes in the Italian Forni di Sopra are higher and the infrastructure is more modern, many compare it to Kobla. Ski pass Bohinj is valid for both ski resorts, which are otherwise connected by bus.

In the vicinity is a small ski resort Zatrnik, a hidden pearl of Slovenian skiing, to which buses run, and it is about ten kilometres by car. At altitudes between 900 and 1200 metres, there are five cable cars and ten mostly easy trails.

Events on the lake

Lake Bohinj rarely freezes because it hides thermal springs at its bottom. However, if a sufficiently solid ice crust is caught on the surface to enable walking on it, it marks the beginning of several local events. Then ice bowling and ice-skating competitions are organized, and ice walks provide a special experience.

Additional offer

On the Pokljuka plateau, there are cross-country ski trails that lead through pine and spruce forests. Along the shores of Lake Bohinj, there are a dozen restaurants and a nightclub Čuk, but the best nightlife offers are about thirty kilometres away in Bled. In the valley, there is also a selection of local inns with Gorenjska cuisine: Bohinj cheese, Carniolan sausages, and walnut stew, which you should definitely taste. This area is most lively around the New Year and during the carnival when numerous events and gatherings are held. Other activities include snow rafting, paragliding, air boarding, and cross-country skiing.

The ambiance and nature are beautiful, but unfortunately, this potential is not accompanied by the appropriate infrastructure and choice of accommodation at the ski resort. Vogel Slovenia is a nice place for nature lovers.
