A great winter holiday in the Salzburger Sportwelt

Winter highlights 2019/20 in the heart of Ski amadé

The Salzburger Sportwelt makes up the winter centrepiece of Austria’s largest ski area association, Ski amadé. Its seven holiday resorts of Flachau, Wagrain-Kleinarl, St. Johann in Salzburg, Radstadt, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Eben and Filzmoos are well-known for their winter sports expertise, attracting guests from all over the world.  Genuine hospitality is the top priority. And not just that – the Salzburger Sportwelt has been venue for a number of international events for many years now.

A great winter holiday in the Salzburger Sportwelt

In the Salzburger Sportwelt there are two big anniversaries to be celebrated: in Flachau the 10th Audi FIS Ski World Cup Womens’ Night Slalom takes place, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee celebrates in 2020 its 40th anniversary as venue for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup for women. Austria’s largest ski area association once again demonstrates its expertise in the field of winter sports. With over 760 km of slopes and 270 lifts, the Ski amadé counts as one of the most modern ski circuits in the Alps. Here the international winter sports elite feels right at home as well as guests from all over the world. In addition to guaranteed snow and a high level of winter sports expertise great emphasis is placed on safety, service, comfort, family-friendliness, cuisine and adventure. The Ski amadé counts as an absolute forerunner in the field of events and trends.

Flachau – 10 years Audi FIS Ski World Cup Womens‘ Night Slalom

#hermannmaier #damennachtslalom #skimountainhopping #snowspacesalzburg

The three ski areas in the Flachau Valley make the ultimate skiing experience possible – the extensive Snow Space Salzburg area with wide carving pistes and mega comfortable lifts, the highest and challenging ski and freeride paradise of Zauchensee-Flachauwinkl and the trendy shuttle mountain Flachauwinkl-Kleinarl with its Absolut Park. During your holiday you don’t have to settle for just one ski mountain, you can change scenery every day. “Ski Mountain Hopping“ at its best!

Tip: In 2020 Flachau celebrates a very special anniversary – on Tuesday, 14.01.2020 the 10th Audi FIS Ski World Cup Womens’ Night Slalom takes place in Flachau – an absolute highlight in the Ski World Cup calender. It all starts the day before with the legendary Star Challenge, a charity event supporting the young skiers of the Salzburg Ski Association. On race day itself thousands of ski fans transform the Hermann Maier FIS World Cup run into a witches’ cauldron to cheer on the elite of women’s World Cup skiing.

Altenmarkt-Zauchensee – double skiing fun for all abilities

#zauchensee #altenmarkt #skiweltcup #jubiläum

Altenmarkt-Zauchensee promises double skiing pleasure with twice as many possibilities: whilst Altenmarkt offers a cosy-friendly feel, Zauchensee is known and loved for its challenging winter sports facilities. The World Cup resort of Zauchensee lies at an altitude of 1,350 m, is the highest ski resort in the Salzburger Sportwelt and a real hotspot for free riders.

Tip: Zauchensee has been venue for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup womens’ race for 40 years. From 11th to 12th January 2020 the best women skiers compete in the speed disciplines of downhill and alpine combination for valuable points.

Good food, interesting stories and dipping into the history of Altenmarkt – that’s on the programme on a “Culinary Walk“, which takes place on Wednesdays from December to April on prior booking. www.altenmarkt-zauchensee.com

Eben – the small winter sports idyll for families and newcomers to backcountry ski touring

#montepopolo #eben #skitouren #familienfest

With the Monte Popolo, Eben has an adventure mountain, which attracts the whole family. The small, compact ski area right by the motorway is a real insider tip for all ages. Here no-one will get lost, the slopes are wide, the lifts comfortable and there’s plenty of variety to had with a kinderland, photo point, fun park including video run, timed racing run and cosy huts.  A backcountry ski tour route offers the opportunity to collect first experiences off piste.

Wagrain-Kleinarl – „Winter sport times 2“ for everyone in the Silent Night resort

#anfänger #könner #familien #wagraini #familyrun #stillenachtort

Wagrain-Kleinarl is a paradise for beginners as well as for real ski and freestyle whizzes and part of the Snow Space Salzburg with 120 km of slopes.

In „Wagrainis Winter World“ all those, right at the start of their skiing career feel right at home. The Adventure World with magic carpet lift, mascot Wagraini, tubing run, rubber ring carousel and „Wagraini’s Dwarf house” ensures lots of fun and action on on off the slopes. Use of „Wagrainis Winter World“ is included in a valid ski pass.

On the Shuttleberg in Flachauwinkl-Kleinarl there’s also plenty of fun to be had on skis: Whilst you can collect fun crazy dolls sticker on the family run, the XXL Superpipe is more daunting. With 6.5 m high walls, 160 m long and 30 m wides it is unique in the Alps. Burton „The Stash Park“ is a very natural snow park with narrow forest paths and exciting obstacles made of wood. The Absolut Park with its length of 1.5 km and over 100 obstacles counts as one of the largest snow parks in Europe.

Tip: Cooking event on the mountain with local chef Rudi Pichler and an international star chef www.wagrain-kleinarl.at

St. Johann-Alpendorf – Home base for pleasure-seekers in Snow Space Salzburg

#earlybird #hüttenfrühstück #shopping #hombasefürgenießer

St. Johann-Alpendorf is a part of Snow Space Salzburg, to which also Flachau and Wagrain-Kleinarl with a total of 120 km belong. However, St. Johann is not only popular for perfect ski days, but also for lots of variety away from the slopes and for  urban flair with a variety of great shopping addresses.

Tip: Particularly exclusive and inviting presents the ski area early in the morning, when the motto is “Early Bird – Ski Pleasure first thing in the morning‘“. It starts at 7.30 am – before the official opening time of the lift – accompanied on the empty slopes and freshly prepared pistes. The group has a maximum of 30 partcipants, as crowning finish a hut breakfast awaits on the mountain. Filzmoos – Romantic family idyll at the foot of the Bischofsmütze

#johannamaier #foodies #ballonwoche #rossbrand #kutschenfahrten

Filzmoos is real hideaway for romance seekers – gourmets and food-lovers can meet up in the Restaurant and Hotel “Das Maier“ run by top female chef Johanna Maier. An absolute must for all those, who fancy being transported through the winter forest at a speed of 2 horsepower, are the Filzmoos horse-drawn sleighs – snuggled up warmly on traditional horse-drawn sleighs to rustic alpine huts, where Pongau delicacies are served. Yet Filzmoos has plenty to offer winter sports enthusiasts: around 20 well-prepared km of slopes and ski schools in the centre of the resort are perfect for families. The Rossbrand mountain offers one of the most beautiful high alpine cross country trails in the whole of SalzburgerLand: head up on the cable car, the trail is open well into the spring and offers a fantastic view of the Dachstein range.

Tip: Every year in winter the whole of Filzmoos is transformed into a “Balloon Village” – from 11th to 18th January the 41st Dopgas Balloon Trophy takes place. Around thirty teams from different nations compete. A very special spectacle is the „Night of Balloons“ on 18th January 2020. Hot-air balloons rides can be booked from December the end of February. www.filzmoos.at

Radstadt – the “Old Town in the Mountains“ is the “Home of the Champions“

#rodelbahn #altestadtimgebirge #homeofthechampions

A metre-thick wall and the mystic witches‘ tower bear witness to Radstadt’s history, which is also known as the “Old Town in the Mountains”. History seems to come alive all around the town. Already in 1289 Radstadt was declared a town. Today it’s home to a number of ski stars: top cross country ski champion Teresia Stadlober or Super-G World Champion Hannes Reichelt have their roots in the “Home of the Champions“. The family-friendly ski area of Radstadt-Altenmarkt covers 17 lovely km of pistes and eight modern lifts. It’s particularly popular for its guaranteed snow and compactness. Cosy ski huts, the Fichtel trail for children, a fun slope plus the snow park playgroundSNOW with fun elements made of snow guarantee lots of fun.

The longest, floodlit toboggan run in the Salzburger Sportwelt in Radstadt is 6 km long. It’s opened daily during the winter season from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm, every Tuesday and Thursday in the evening too until 10.30 pm. Travel up comfortably on the 8-seater cable car. www.radstadt.com

The Salzburger Sportwelt encompasses the eight holiday resorts of Flachau, Wagrain-Kleinarl, St. Johann-Alpendorf, Radstadt, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Eben and Filzmoos and makes up the winter centrepiece of the Ski amadé. This is, with its 760 km of pistes, 270 lift facilities, 25 ski and snowboard schools and over 120 ski huts, Austria’s largest ski destination.
